Ralph J. DeLong, 79, 424 S. Oak, died Monday at his home.

Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. Thursday at the Sacred Heart Baptist church with Rev. Daniel C. Keohane officiating.

Burial is to follow at the Calvary Cemetery in Tulsa under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Rosary is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at Sacred Heart Church.

DeLong was born July 11, 1914 in Cridersville, Ohio. He was an independent oilman and retired in 1978 after 30 years with Service Drilling Company in Tulsa as production superintendent. He married June 18, 1936 in Sapulpa and the couple left in 1940 to the oil fields around Oklahoma and Texas. They returned to Sapulpa in 1953. DeLong was a Boy Scout leader for over 20 years and a little league baseball coach for 30 years. He was a member of the BPOE, the Early 30s Club, the Bozo Club, the Oklahoma Independent Petroleum Association, the Society of Petroleum Engineers and the Sacred Heart Catholic Church. His hobbies included golfing, fishing and hunting.

Survivors include wife Mary Lucille Berton, children Sharon Peterson of Springfield, Mo., Ron DeLong and Kevin DeLong, both of Hominy, Kay Zapf of New Fairfield, Conn., Charles DeLong, Tom DeLong and Janie Elledge, all of Sapulpa, Theresa DeLong of Tulsa and Stanley DeLong of Harrah, Okla.; brother Lawrence DeLong and sister Bertha Malanowski, both of Sapulpa; 23 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by parents Alva and Mary Alice DeLong.

Casketbearers are to be Greg DeLong, Darren DeLong, David Peterson, Rob Miller, Stephen Miller, Bryan Lamb, Daniel DeLong, John DeLong and Phillip DeLong.

The Casket will not be open at anytime. Donations may be made to the Oklahoma Cancer Society.
