DON’T LET THIS BOY DOWN
The telegram from the adjutant general stated that reports received by the war
department established the fact that death occurred December 5, in the European
area.
A tail gunner on a B-17 bomber, stationed in England, Sergeant Douglas was
reported missing following a mission into the European theater of war.
Sergeant Douglas enlisted in the army in November, 1942, and left for overseas
duty in August, 1943, following a furlough in June at which time he was married
to Miss Billie Smith. She was recently presented with an air medal with two oak
leaf clusters significant of ten missions over enemy territory and the downing
of one enemy plane, which Sergeant Douglas earned in his months of overseas
duty.
A popular member of the Sapulpa high school graduating class of 1942, he was
active in school dramatics, musical presentations, Hi-Y, Demolays and the
Methodist church.
