'God moves in a mysterious way,
His wonders to perform,
He plants his footsteps in the sea
And rides upon the storm.'
God's providential dealings with us are never more mysterious and perplexing than they are when death comes and claims a life which is young, promising and pure, as in this instance. And yet strange as may seem God's dealings with us we still have every reason to have confidence in Him, "Who doeth all things well," knowing that death is God's best opportunity to do His best for our loved ones.
THOMAS P. EDWARDS, the subject of this sketch, was born in King City, Mo., Aug.
1, 1879, and died in Leon, Iowa, Oct. 5, 1903, being 24 years, 2 months and 4 days old.
In the spring of 1899 he located in Sapulpa, Indian Territory. Shortly after moving to Indian Territory he was converted and united with the M.E. Church South. His conversion was very clear and brought joy and power to his soul, which continually assured him of his acceptance unto God. His greatest ambition since his conversion has been to serve God faithfully. Frequently during his illness he has expressed the desire, if it were according to God's will and purpose that his life should be spared that he might win many stars for his crown. His submission, however, to the will of God, his patience under all circumstances, and his cheerful anticipation for the future have deeply impressed all who have waited upon him.
On February 19th, 1902, he was united in marriage to NELLIE M. HAMILTON, who with other relatives today mourn the loss of a loving husband and dutiful son. This occasion is one of peculiar sadness in view of the fact that within a space of less than two years, death has broken into the family circle four times. May the God of all comfort be the stay of these bereaved hearts in this hour of unspeakable sorrow.
Funeral services were conducted on Tuesday a.m. at the home of JONATHAN HAMILTON, by Rev. I.N. Woodward, of the Leon M.E. Church. After the services the remains were taken to Sapulpa, Indian Territory for interment.
