Kennon M. Garvin, 76, of Sapulpa died at home Tuesday, March 12, 2002. He was born Jan. 19, 1926 in Hanson.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and in the Korean War. He was in the Southern Philippines during the Luzon Campaign, and received the Asiatic-Pacific Theater Campaign ribbon with two bronze stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with two bronze stars, the Distinguished Service Medal and 148th Infantry, Co. 34 WD 10 April 1946 Victory Ribbon with 2 overseas bars.

He graduated from Sapulpa High School in 1943. He was employed at Sun Oil Co. for 47 years prior to his retirement.

He was married to Willie Ruth Wallace on Sept. 21, 1956 in Sapulpa. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Methodist Men's Club, Fidelis Sunday School Class, the Retired Senior Volunteer Program and a life member of the Sapulpa Historical Society.

Mr. Garvin is survived by his wife, Willie Ruth, of the home; three sons, Steve Garvin of the home, Stanley Garvin of Tucson, Ariz., and Stacy Garvin and his wife, Tracy, of Houston, Texas; and grandson Smith Hillman Garvin.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer C. and Stella Goode Garvin.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2002, in the First United Methodist Church with the Rev. Mike Asher officiating. Interment will follow in Green Hill Memorial Gardens under the direction of the Smith Funeral Home of Sapulpa.

Serving as casketbearers will be Lloyd Skinner, Ray Willis, Joe Sherwood, Mike Borden, John Raines and Ted Evans. Honorary bearers will be the Methodist Men and the Fidelis Sunday School Class.
