Joe B. Hill Rites Were Friday
Funeral rites were held Friday, September 12, at 3 p.m. in the First
Baptist Church of Depew for Joseph Bartlett Hill, 79. Officiating were
the Rev. James Swafford and the Rev. C. H. Stephens. Interment was in
the Bristow City Cemetery and Bates-Maples Funeral Home was in charge
of arrangements.
Pallbearers were John Martin, Hans Rainwater, Jack Neese, Melvin J.
Osborn, Ted Melton, and Calvin Bookout.
Hill, a resident of this area since 1922 from Arkansas, died in
Stroud
General Hospital early Thursday morning September 11. He was born September
14, 1889 in Locke, Arkansas and married Mary Jane Keaton in Mulberry,
Arkansas on May 15, 1910. she preceded him in death in December 1947.
Hill was married August 15, 1948 to Bess Butcher in Depew.
He was the owner of Hill's Auto Parts store in Depew and was a member
of the Baptist Church, Hill was a member and past master of the Depew
Masonic Lodge. He was also a member and past patron of the Order of
Easter Star in Depew. He was a 32nd degree Mason and was a member of
the McAlester Scottish Rite Bodies.
Surviving are his wife, Bess, of the home in Depew; two sons, Andy
Hill, Depew; George Hill, Sapulpa; four daughters Mrs. Bonnie Shores,
San Pablo, Calif.; Mrs. Edna Law, Tulsa; Mrs. Rosa Clifton, Berkley
Calif.;
Mrs. Ruby Wise; El Sabranto, Calif.; seven grandchildren and nine great
grandchildren.
Also two brothers, George Hill, Sacramento, Calif.; Will Hill, Philmont,
Ore.; three sisters, Mrs. Ruth Bryant, Henryetta,; Mrs. Ida Davis, Afton
and Lucille of Modesto, Calif.
