A former Sapulpa mayor who also had served as Creek County election board secretary, died at his home on Sunday.

Marcus Horn, born in Bakersfield, MO, on April 8, 1910, moved to Sapulpa when he was about 10 years old.

A former city commissioner, Horn served as mayor in 1964, and as election board secretary from 1971 to 1986.

He was also president of the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce in 1972.

Horn, known for his civic endeavors, founded Marcus Horn Chrysler-Plymouth dealership and retired in the 1970s. He was instrumental in establishing a Camp Fire Girls office in Sapulpa as well as organizing the Community Chest.

He also served on the Sapulpa Library board and promoted the library's expansion. Also, he was a recipient of the Sapulpa Citizen of the Year award.

Horn also served as a captain in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Marcus Horn, 83, of Sapulpa died Sunday at his home.

A memorial service is scheduled for 10 am Tuesday, at the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with Rev. C. Dewitt Boyce officiating.

Burial will follow at South Heights Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Horn was born April 8, 1910, in Bakersfield, MO. A resident of Sapulpa since 1920, he served as captain in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1945 Horn founded Marcus Horn Chrysler, Plymouth dealership and retired in the 1970s.

Horn was instrumental in establishing a Camp Fire Girls Office in Sapulpa and in organizing the Community Chest. A former City Commissioner, Horn served as Mayor of Sapulpa in 1964, served as secretary of the Election Board from 1971 to 1986 and also served as president of the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce in 1972. Horn was a member of the Sapulpa Library Board and promoted its expansion. He was also a recipient of the Sapulpa Citizen of the Year Award.

Survivors include his wife, Irene; daughters, Diane Kennedy and Linda Atkins, both of Sapulpa; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd or to a favorite charity.

Memorial services for Marcus Horn were held this morning at 10 in the Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd with Father DeWitt Boyce officiating, under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Horn, a longtime Sapulpa resident, died Sunday at his home.
