Taken By Death

J. W. Howard, 71, well known Sapulpan and city treasurer until a short time ago, died yesterday afternoon at the local hospital following a prolonged illness.

Mr. Howard came to Sapulpa from Miami 25 years ago and was employed in the office of the county clerk. He served as a clerk of the school board, with offices in the high school building, for several years and held the office of city treasurer for eight years. He resigned from this office January 25 due to ill health. He was a deacon in the Christian church and was active in the IOOF.

Survivors are the wife of the home address, 206 South Mounds street, two daughters, Miss Elizabeth Howard, a teacher in the Sapulpa School system, and Mrs. Paul Yount of Stockville, Miss.; four sons, David, Richard, Robert and Dean, all of this city. Two brothers also survive S.E. Howard of Enid and W.B. Howard of Bushnell, Ill.

Funeral services will be held tomorrow afternoon at three o’clock at the First Christian church, with the pastor, Rev. Rolla Grimm, officiating. Burial will be made in the South Heights Cemetery under the direction of the Buffington Funeral home.
