Sapulpa Herald
Sapulpa, Oklahoma
May 26, 2006
Marjorie Rose Parkhurst Kelley was born May 29, 1935 to
George and Flossie Parkhurst in Seminole, and on Tuesday, May
23, 2006 she was welcomed with open arms by her husband and
Jesus and started singing with the angels.
Margie, as everyone knew her, was raised in Seminole where
she graduated from high school in 1953. On April 25, 1953 she
married her high school sweetheart, Jay Kelley, in Seminole.
They had three children and lived in Seminole until Jay's
oilfield work brought them to Sapulpa in 1959.
After that Margie was very successful at selling Avon and
well known while working at Neal and Jean's Flower Shop, where
she worked for 20 years until retiring in 1998 to spend time
with husband of 48 years, who also retired in 1998. She lost him
on June 16, 1999 from a sudden heart attack.
Margie was a very good bowler and bowled on several
championship teams. In the last seven years, if you went to see
her and she wasn't home, you could find her playing bingo until
a couple of years ago when her health started failing.
Margie had a beautiful voice and always sang in the choir at
the First Church of the Nazarene where she was a member, and
even sang with her two daughters a few times. Margie always
enjoyed watching her grandchildren in everything they were
involved in, especially sports, and watching them and their
friends enjoy her beautiful swimming pool was always a joy to
her. Everyone knew Grandma Kelley.
Margie was very proud of her home and was well-known for
keeping it spotless. You never ever saw her unless she was all
dolled up with her makeup and jewelry on. Making cheese rolls
and candy at Christmastime was only one of her specialties. She
loved babies and could always quiet the most fussiest.
Mom, just knowing that you are with daddy and all your pain
is gone and that you have a new body will help us get through
it. We love you.
