Lifelong Sapulpan T.J. Kennedy, Jr., died at his home Wednesday,
Oct. 26, 2005 after a long struggle with cancer.
Born Feb. 11, 1935, T.J. was the son of
Lillian and T.J. "Bun"
Kennedy, both of whom preceded him in death.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Daniel Coffey
Kennedy.
T.J. attended Sapulpa schools and was an outstanding football
player under Coach Bom Bomgardner. He was named both guard and
tight end on the All-State team of 1953. His love of sports
continued throughout his life with golf being a favorite
pastime.
He graduated from the University of Oklahoma, where he was a
member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity. In 1958 he joined
his father-in-law, Marcus Horn, in the Chrysler-Dodge Agency.
They later acquired the T.J. Kennedy Buick-GMC franchise. His
son, Philip, became his partner in 1979.
Always active in civic affairs, T.J. was past president of
Sapulpa Rotary, the Sapulpa Chamber of Commerce and was Chairman
of the United Way Drive. He enjoyed being a guest speaker at
Sapulpa Junior High School for a semester as part of Junior
Achievement. He also enjoyed the several years he was chairman
of the library board.
He is survived by his wife Diane Horn Kennedy; his sons Philip
John Kennedy of Sapulpa, Donald Marc Kennedy and his wife Ginni
of Edmond; his four grandsons Philip, Colin, Ryan and Scott.
T.J. loved life and had many friends who will miss him.
Rosary services will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 7:30
p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005.
Funeral services will also be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at
11 a.m. Friday, Oct 28, 2005.
If friends wish to contribute to a charity, T.J. expressed a
wish to support either Sacred Heart Church Building Fund, 1777
East Grayson, Sapulpa, Ok. 74066 or St. John Sapulpa Hospital
Foundation, 1004 E. Bryan, Sapulpa, Ok. 74066.
