CASSVILLE, Mo. — Phil Merlin Ledgerwood Sr., 76, Fayetteville, Ark., formerly of Cassville, died Tuesday, July 1, 1997, at his home after an illness.
Mr. Ledgerwood was born Jan 18, 1921, at Oilton, Okla. He came to Southwest Missouri in 1937, when his family moved to Shell Knob and later to Cassville. He came to Fayetteville in 1963. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Navy Medical Corps. He received the President's Commendation while serving aboard the U.S.S. South Dakota. His last duty was at the U.S. Naval Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. He was a lifetime member of the Church of Christ. His membership in recent years was with the Center Street congregation in Fayetteville.
He married Lela Bowen on Jan 10, 1943. She died in 1984. He then married Imogene Hilton. She survives.
Additional survivors include two sons, Phil Ledgerwood, Parkville, and Bill Ledgerwood, Springdale, Ark.; a stepdaughter, Georgia Caselman, Bella Vista, Ark.; two sisters, Geneva Clayton and Billie Ann Stephens, both of Cassville; five grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; four great-grand-children; and six step-great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 11 am Thursday at Center Street Church of Christ, Fayetteville, with Randall Caselman officiating. Graveside services will be at Horner Cemetery, Cassville, with Wayne Deffenbaugh officiating.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 pm Wednesday at Moore's Chapel, Fayetteville.
Contributions may be made to Gospel Tracts International or the Washington Regional Medical Center Hospice Program, in care of the funeral home.
