LUBBOCK - Service for LaVerne Matts McGeath, 84, of Lubbock will be at 11:30 am Monday, May 8, in Resthaven Funeral Home Abbey Chapel. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park, under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home.
Mrs. McGeath died Saturday, May 6, 2000, in University Medical Center.
She was born Sep 17, 1915, in Drumright, Okla. She graduated from Drumright High School in 1933 and attended beauty school in Drumright, where she worked as a beautician for six years. She married Glen McGeath on June 11, 1936. He died in 1990.
She and her husband lived in many Texas towns during the 1940s and 1950s, while working the oil fields. In 1960 they opened the Wolverine Drive-In in Earth, Texas, and operated it for 17 years. They lived in Midland before moving to Lubbock in 1988. She was an active volunteer at University Medical Center and resident of Elmbrook Estates.
Survivors include four daughters, Glenda Hall of Las Vegas, Marilyn Brunson and Patty Ruby, both of Lubbock, and Nicky Caudill of Lovington, N.M.; two sons, Ivy ``Butch'' McGeath of Lubbock and Joe McGeath of San Angelo; three sisters, Rita Campbell, Leta Rainwater and Wilma Marshall, all of Drumright; 23 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family requests memorials be made to the Judy McGeath Memorial Fund at John Glenn Junior High School, 2201 N. University, San Angelo, TX 76901 or Emergency Medical Services in Earth, Texas.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 pm Sunday, May 7.
