Aubrey "Art" Richard McGuire, 85, passed away Saturday, March 9, 2002, at his residence in Kellyville.
He was born Oct. 27, 1916 to Tom and Lilly McGuire in Lebanon, Missouri.
Art grew up in a large family on a farm. He was a very intelligent man that led a simple life enjoying simple pleasures. He worked in the oil fields pumping wells for 27 years.
One of Art's great joys in life was wolf hunting. He wolf hunted most of his life.
Art would go with his buddies and take his dogs and just listen to the dogs run. He hunted until about 14 years ago when he and his wife moved out of town to the country where he enjoyed farming.
Art raised a large vegetable garden every year and also had an orchard. He worked in the garden so much that he even wore out a tiller.
Art also raised and tended to a large variety of livestock like chickens, ducks, geese, sheep, goats, horses, cows and many barn cats. Everything basically was raised as a pet. Art loved it when the animals started to have their young.
He also enjoyed fishing, especially for catfish at a private pond. He would go out and sit for hours and fish.
He enjoyed cutting wood on his place. Art spent many hours in the summer just sitting outside under a shade tree in the yard.
Of course, he loved his grandkids and great-grandkids very much and enjoyed spending time with all of them. He thought they were the greatest.
Art's marriage to Helen Byrd lasted 64 years until her death in 1997.
Art was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Lilly McGuire; his loving wife, Helen; his granddaughter, Shelly R. Hines; his great-grandson, Dakota; and his brothers, Robert and Fernda McGuire.
Art is survived by his children, Jerry McGuire and his wife, Wanda, of Kellyville, Leon McGuire and his wife, Kathy, of Sapulpa, Bill McGuire and his wife, Paula, of Bristow, Barbara Denby of Kellyville, Judy Mathews and her husband, Willis, of Kellyville and Sharon Arms and her husband, David, of Kellyville; his grandchildren D'Wayne McGuire, Connie Green, Michelle Flynn, Kim Geiger, Richard Denby, Terry Lynn Eller, Michael Denby, Andrew Arms, Tony Mathews and Sherry Ann Beck; his 14 great-grandchildren; his brother John McGuire of California; his sisters Pauline Peevy of Texas and Bertha Boren of California; plus many other nieces, nephews, cousins and very close friends.
