Mabel Miles died December 9, 1999, at the age of 94. 

Miles began teaching at age 17 in Drumright, Okla., and moved to Tulsa ten years later to begin a 40 year teaching career in the Tulsa Public School system. Founder of the Tulsa Reading Clinic, Miles was a member of many organizations, including the Oklahoma Retired Educators Association; International Reading Association; Oklahoma Reading Association; Tulsa County Reading Council; American Association of University Women and the Business and Professional Women’s Association. She was a member of the Brookside Church of Christ, Tulsa, and continued her work as a private tutor until her death. 

Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas G. Miles, and two sisters, she is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
