Funeral services for Wylodean Norris Mooney, age 87, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6. 2004 at the First United Methodist Church in Tahlequah with the Rev. Ginny Hathaway officiating.

Internment will follow at Tahlequah City Cemetery under, the direction of Hart Funeral Home. Serving as pall bearers will be Steve Cumbey, Jerry Shore, Herman Jenkins, Mark Gish, Ron Beaverson and Curtis Norris. Wylodean Mooney was one of nine children born to Thomas Franklin and Sudie Arizona (Gates) Norris. She was born Sept. 24, 1917 on the family farm near Stone Chapel and: passed from this life on. Oct. 2, 2004 in Tahlequah. Wylodean graduated from Northeastern State Teacher's College in 1940.

She married Walter Lilbern "Bill" Mooney on June 7, 1942 in her parent's home on the farm. After living briefly in Tulsa, they moved to Bill's hometown of Mounds in 1946. Their only child. Tom, was born two years later. Wylodean took a job at Douglas Aircraft and it was there that she learned to ride a bicycle. She went to work for the Democrat News and later worked 27 years for the Sapulpa Herald. At the Herald she began selling advertising and retired as editor of the social page. Upon the passing of her husband on June 8, 1995, she returned to Tahlequah to be near her son. Wylodean loved to garden and tend flowers, watch birds, bowl, spend time reading a good book and especially loved a good game of canasta or dominos. But most of all, her time with her family was the most important. Wylodean was very active in the Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star and garden club. She was of the Methodist faith and a member of the First United Methodist Church and active in their women's circle and CIHU class.

Wylodean was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Bill; two brothers Thomas Gates "T.G." in 1945 and Steve Monroe in 2002; two sisters, Audrey Alicia in 1913 and Zona May in 1916.

Wylodean is survived by her son Thomas G. and wife Robin Mooney, of Tahlequah; three brothers Floyd Norris and wife Tania, of Los Angeles; Dr. Hugh B. Norris and wife Evelon, of La Mesa, Calif., and Larry Norris and wife Mary Agnes, of Water Valley, Texas; one sister Mary and husband Merl, of Bartlesville; and two grandchildren Timothy Mooney and wife Amelia, and Audrey Mooney, both of Tahlequah; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider the Bill and Wylodean Mooney Scholarship Fund at Mounds High School. The family will receive visitors at Hall Funeral Home from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday.
