Former Deputy Sheriff Joe Neal Dies Wednesday
Former deputy sheriff Joe Neal, 71, died Wednesday morning at
Bartlett Memorial Hospital of complications from a heart ailment. He had
been hospitalized two weeks.
Neal had had a career in law enforcement agencies, serving as a
special officer for the Frisco Railway, chief of police at Ada, deputy
sheriff under Guy Willibey and before retiring in 1966 was a plant security
officer for Douglas Aircraft in Tulsa.
He was an army veteran of World War I, a member of First Christian
church, the Men's Bible class of the church, Euchee Masonic Lodge, and
was a past post commander of American Legion Post 36. He had served as
president of the Oklahoma Peace Officers Associations.
Neal was born in Montgomery County, Miss., Feb 5, 1898, and was
married to Donnabelle Lee April 24, 1925 at Ada. Mrs. Neal is a teacher
at Washington school.
Besides his wife of the home, 1110 E. Burroughs Road, he is survived
by a son, Major James R. Neal, stationed in Japan; a grandchild; a
brother, John Neal of Muskogee and two sisters, Mrs. Joe Donnell, Ft.
Worth, Texas; Mrs. J. B. Tedder, Nevada City, Calif.
