John C. Newport, 80, a team contractor during the early days in Drumright, died at 4 am Sunday at his home, 805 North Harley avenue following an illness of six or seven months.

His death was attributed to complications.

Mr. Newport had been a resident of Drumright since 1912.

Services will be held Tuesday morning, beginning at 10 o'clock at the Newport home with the Rev. H. George, pastor of the Church of Christ, officiating and preaching the funeral sermon.

The body will be taken to Shawnee by the Stubblefield funeral directors immediately after the rites for burial. 

Surviving relatives include his wife, three sons, Acie of Shawnee and Granville and Alfred both of Wink, Texas, and one daughter, Mrs. Frank Phillips of Drumright.

Other relatives include a brother, L. R. Newport of Jennings, and two sisters, Mrs. N. L. Blackburn of Shawnee and Mrs. Margaret Simpson of Henryetta.

Sixteen grandchildren also survive.
