PITTSBURG, Kan. – Michael Brendan Patrick, 20, of Pittsburg, Kan., died Monday at home after a long illness.

Services are scheduled for 10 am Friday at Bath-Naylor Funeral Home, Pittsburg, with the Rev. Peter Vile officiating.

Burial will be at 3 pm Friday in the Maple Park Cemetery, Springfield, MO.  Visitation is scheduled from 7 to 8 pm Thursday at the funeral home.

Mr. Patrick was born July 3, 1969, in Colombia, Mo.

He graduated from Pittsburg High School in 1987. While in high school, he was active in several organizations including National Honor Society, International Thespians Society, Pen and Scroll Club and French club. He also was a four-year member of the Pittsburg High School Drama Club and a club officer.

He was “Best Actor” three years in a row and received the Citizenship Award during his senior year. He was a staff reporter and cartoonist for his high school newspaper, “The Booster,” and organized “Kings Knight,” a non-alcoholic party at his high school.

Patrick filmed and produced a video, “The Climax,” which was submitted to a national student competition.

He also performed as an actor in several theatrical productions.

Other memberships included the Greenpeace Movement and Save the Children Foundation. He also supported the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Survivors include his parents Bert and Lura Larsson Patrick of Pittsburg, sister Kristina Patrick, of the home; paternal grandfather and step-grandmother, Bill and Eulah Patrick of Tulsa; and maternal grandmother, Wanda Larsson of Springfield.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother Beatrice Patrick of Tulsa and his maternal grandfather.

The family has suggested memorials be made to the Ronald McDonald House at Kansas University, Kansas City, Kan.; the Greenpeace Movement; Save the Children Foundation or Osteosarcom Research at the KU Medical Center. They also suggested that friends and family members plant red maple trees in Patrick’s memory.
