Former Sapulpa resident Madge E. Davenport Pedro, 88, died Monday at Rosewood Nursing Home in Stillwater.

Services were held Thursday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Daniel Keohane officiating.

Burial was in Fairlawn Cemetery under the direction of Strode Funeral Home, Stillwater.

She was born June 20, 1902, in Yale. She received her teaching certificate in 1921, and received a bachelor's degree in Edmond in 1951 and a master's degree in 1975 from the University of New Mexico.

Mrs. Pedro taught at Catholic and public schools in Oklahoma, Colorado, Arizona and Santa Maria, Calif. She taught for 18 years at the Navajo Indian Reservation at Pueblo Pintato,New Mexico, with the Bureau of Indian Affairs. She retired in 1979 after teaching for more than 50 years.

She was the only woman to work at the Dupont Powder Works ammunition plant at Fort Lewis, Wash., during World War II. She also Worked as a nurse in Madagan Army Hospital at Fort Lewis.

She was preceded in death by sons Joseph Davenport in 1939, Jerry Davenport in 1948 and Robert Davenport in 1986.

Survivors include son James Davenport of Stillwater and LeRoy Davenport of Sapulpa; 15 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
