Lemuel E. Rhodes, 86, died Wednesday, Feb. 22, 1995.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Michael Napier officiating. Burial will be in
South Heights Cemetery.
Rhodes was born Dec. 30, 1908 in Scottsville, Kans. He has lived in Sapulpa since 1916, and he and his wife, Juanita married Dec. 20, 1939 in Pawnee.
Rhodes was employed by the Sapulpa Fire Department prior to his retirement in 1977 and served as fire chief from 1962 to 1966. He was a member of Ridgeway Baptist Church and the retired firefighters organization. He was a life member and past president of the Sapulpa Historical Society.
He was responsible for restoring the 1936 fire truck and was an early-day aviator who helped develop the airport.
Survivors include his wife Juanita, of Sapulpa three daughters, Pat Hoover and Peggy Boren, both of Sapulpa; and Jayne Hodges of Wilson, N.C.; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
