Luther 'L.J.' Ryan, 72, died June 29, 2000, at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital, Medicine Lodge.

He was born October 26, 1927, at Mounds, Oklahoma, the son of James L. and Addie M. Osborn Ryan. A resident of Medicine Lodge since 1951, moving from Russell, he was a cost accountant for Gold Bond & Barber County Savings & Loan.

He belonged to First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge.

On June 26, 1947, he married Betty D. Harding at Russell. She survives.

Other survivors include: a son, Rodney J., West Monroe, Louisiana, two daughters, Terry J. Axline, Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Paula C. Chapin, Haysville; seven grandchildren; and two great-grand children.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 3, 2000, at First Christian Church, Medicine Lodge, with the Rev. Tom Walters presiding. Burial was in Highland Cemetery.

Memorials may be sent to the American Diabetes Association, in care of Larrison-Forsyth Funeral Home, Medicine Lodge.
