Updated: 06 Sep 2009 Calico Rock Progress The funeral services were conducted by Elder R. M. Hively, after which the Woodmen and Odd Fellows took charge and performed burial rites. A large assemblage of people of this section were present. Mr. Sanders died the 8th, after the accident of the preceding day, in which he was fatally injured. He and Porter Whitfield were driving to Sapulpa in a truck and were struck by a fast train while crossing the track. Porter was knocked out of the truck and suffered a broken leg and minor injuries, but Mr. Sanders was unfortunately dragged with the wrecked truck for quite a distance, sustaining injuries that caused internal hemorrhage and subsequent death. Mrs. Sanders and three children will not return to Oklahoma, but will remain here permanently. |
