TULSA – Mr. Reuel Ross Shaffer, 72, Tulsa, died Wednesday at St. John’s
Medical Center.
Graveside services will be 2 pm Friday at Memorial Park Cemetery, Tulsa, with
the Revs. Russell Casey and Leroy Veale officiating.
Arrangements are under the direction of Moore’s Eastlawn Chapel, Tulsa.
He was born May 2, 1915 and moved to Tulsa in 1929. He graduated Tulsa Central
High School in 1935 and attended the University of Tulsa. He also was a resident
of Sapulpa for 35 years before returning to Tulsa.
Mr. Shaffer retired from Southwestern Bell in 1985 after 45 years of service. He
also was a member of Telephone Pioneers of Oklahoma.
He was a member of the Builders Class of the First Christian Church of Sapulpa
and the Boston Avenue Methodist Church. He also was a 32nd degree Mason
(McAlester Indian Consistory), Lodge of Perfection (Albert Pike), Tulsa Masonic
(Blue) Lodge #71, and Akdar Shrine in Tulsa.
Mr. Shaffer also was a past member of the Sapulpa Men’s Golf Association.
Survivors include wife Hazel Jacque; daughter Mrs. William H. (Jacque Lynn)
Hodges of Tulsa; brothers Sam of Huntsville, Texas, and Robert of Houston;
sister Rena Hanton of Tulsa; and two grandchildren.
Casket bearers will be Joe Brewer, John McNutt, Elnor Dillman, Jim Story, Nelson
Upton, Frank Russell, Warren Welker, Bob Peebles, J.D. Walts, Bill Erwin and Jim
Brown.
