March 15, 2007 Edna
Beatrice Sherry, (also known as Bea, Sally and Doll), 87, passed
away Tuesday, February 27, 2007 in Tulsa, OK. She was born July
3, 1919 in Cordell, OK, to Luther and Edna Keeter Douglas. She
graduated from high school in Oilton, OK.
Mrs. Sherry graduated from Oklahoma A&M (now OSU), with a
degree in Education and later, earned a Masters Degree in
Education from the University of Tulsa. She married William G.
Sherry on April 29, 1945 and enjoyed 48 years of marriage to
him, before he preceded her in death on June 15, 1993. Her
specialty was "reading" and she loved to teach beginning
readers. She taught in a one room school, grades first through
eighth in St. Elmo, IL, and later taught in Delaware, OK, where
she met her husband. She also was a band director in Delaware.
During World War II, she worked for Douglas Aircraft in the
summers. She taught first grade and kindergarten in Tulsa Public
Schools for 34 years at John Burroughs, Sequoyah, Cecilia
Clinton, Waite Phillips, MacArthur and Walt Whitman. She retired
from teaching in 1981 and spent the following years enjoying her
precious grandsons. She was able to take a trip to Florida with
her family for the past several years and loved seeing the
ocean. She loved The Spaugy's extended family and she was able
to attend a Spaugy family reunion last summer. Thanks for always
including her in all the Spaugy family activities and treating
her so special. She especially loved playing Skipbo and helping
pack meals for the homebound with Denise Hopper and all of her
very, very special friends at the Regency Park Nutrition Center.
Thank you all for caring for her so much. She was a member of
First Baptist Church and looked forward to the great Bible
teaching and fellowship that her Sunday School Class provided.
Also, a special thanks to Tina and Eric from Mahogony
Transportation and Laurie Williams and Visiting Angels, who
assisted with her caregiving and helped to make her days more
fun.
