Mr. Donald Henry Smith passed from this life Saturday evening, June 9, 2001, at Mainland Medical Center Hospital in Texas City. 

Born October 11, 1926 in Oilton, Oklahoma, Mr. Smith had been a lifetime resident of Galveston County. He had been a caretaker at the University of Houston Research Facility for many years before his retirement and had served in the U. S. Army during WWII.

Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his wife, Valencia (Butch) Smith. 

Survivors include his daughters and sons-in-law, Cherie and Ron Neighbors of Fredricksburg, Texas, Sharron and Bob Goodwin of Canadian, Texas; sons and daughters-in-law, Lee and Sonny Smith of Algoa, Texas, Gary and Jennifer Smith of Dickinson, Texas; mother, Loretta Smith of Anchorage, Alaska; brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Pat Smith of Anchorage, Alaska; sisters and brothers-in-law, Ladonna and Virgil Lyons of Ardmore, Oklahoma and Betty and Earl Hustead of Wheeler, Texas; 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. 

Memorial services will be Saturday afternoon, June 23, 2001, at Penwaugh Marina in Livingston, Texas. A private cremation will be conducted by Hayes Funeral Home. 

Those who wish may make memorials in the form of donations to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 129, Texas City, TX 77592-0129.
