 Charles Earl Smith
 1918-1997

 Charles Earl Smith died May 22, 1997 in his home in Cleveland, at the age of 78.

 He was born Aug. 3, 1918 in Jenks, the son of Claude and Nellie Smith.

He moved with his family at an early age to Bristow, where he attended schools.

Upon completion of his schooling, he was drafted into the United States Army, and served his county honorable during World War II.

After returning from his military service he began a career as a police officer for the Bristow Police Department. He retired from police work in 1960. He then began a career as a pipefitter, working in Illinois, Colorado and Ponca City. He was a member of the Pipefitter's Local 201.

He married Rhae Buff on Dec. 7, 1971 in Perry. He moved his family to Cleveland after he retired in 1983.

He was a member of the Church of Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cleveland. He was a 32nd Degree Mason and a member of the White Shrine. He was an avid Oklahoma University Sooner Football fan.

He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren especially with his youngest daughter and son, Stevie and Brik.

He is survived by his wife, Rhae, of the home; three sons, Charles Smith of Cleveland, Forrest Smith of Sapulpa and Brik Smith of the home; three daughters, Lynn Smith of the home, Nikki Collins of Tulsa and Stevie Smith of the home; four grandchildren, Payton Smith of the home, Charlie Smith of the home, Kaliber Collins of Tulsa and Joseph E. Barnes Smith of the home; two brothers, Emerson Smith of Bristow and Ernest Smith of Eufaula; and two sisters Edith Sanders of Duncan and Theda Gilrith (sic) of Bristow.

He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Theo Smith and Edgar Smith.

Services were May 27 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Cleveland with Mike Southward officiating. Interment was in the Woodlawn Cemetery.

Arrangements were under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home of Cleveland.
