MASSANETTA SPRINGS, Va. - Memorial service for former Sapulpan Frederick Bruce Speakman will be Thursday at Massanutten Presbyterian Church in Virginia.

Dr. Speakman died Feb 26 at his home in Massanetta Springs.

He was born Sep 26, 1918, in Chandler, and was the son of the late Streeter and Leslie Billingslea Speakman.

He attended Sapulpa schools and earned bachelor's and master's degrees in letters from the University of Oklahoma. He also was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Gnu fraternity.

Dr. Speakman also received a master's degree in classical languages from Harvard University, and his doctorate from Princeton Seminary, graduating magna cum laude.

Dr. Speakman served Presbyterian pastorates in East Orange, N.J., Dayton, Ohio and Pittsburgh, Pa. He also had three books of his sermons published nationally.

He married Zoe Jarred on Dec 25, 1941.

Survivors include wife Zoe; sons Fred, Jr., Bullhead, Ariz., and Stephen of Harrisonburg, VA; daughter Mrs. Steve (Janet) Metcalfe of Buffalo, NY; brother Streeter Speakman of Sapulpa; and seven grandchildren.
