FUNERAL FRIDAY FOR DR. WELLS, COUNTY PIONEER
Pneumonia Victim To Be Buried At Oak Crest
Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 2:30 pm at the First Methodist
Church for Dr. J. M. Wells, 64-year-old pioneer Bristow physician who died
Wednesday afternoon in a Sapulpa hospital from pneumonia and a heart ailment.
The Rev. J. E. McConnell, pastor of the Methodist Church, and the Rev. W. Leach,
pastor of the First Baptist church, will officiate. Sullivan's will be in
charge.
Dr. Wells, who was born in Livingston, Tenn., December 15, 1875, was married in
1905 to Miss Jeanette McNabb at Aurora, Mo., and was graduated from Vanderbilt
University at Nashville in 1909. He moved to the Newby community south of here
in the same year and was in private medical practice until 1915 there. He then
came to Bristow and had lived here since.
Was Masonic Member.
He is survived by the widow, a daughter and two sons, a brother and four
grandchildren, one of whom, Johnny Wells, son of Milton Wells, lives in Lima,
Peru. The other three are Sue Ann, Raymond and Edwin Carman of Bristow.
Among relatives from out of town who will attend the funeral rites are his
brother Dr. M. H. Wells of Watertown, Tenn., and a niece, Mrs. H. C. Cotton of
Parsons, Kan.
Dr. Wells was a member of the Masonic and Odd Fellows lodges, of the county
medical association and the Presbyterian church. He was a past president of the
local Rotary club also.
Doctors Pallbearers
Active pallbearers for the services will be H. T. Lammons, John H. West, O. W.
Webb, J. W. Riley, Arthur Purdy, Alfred Olson, Stanley Henson and W. H. Juedeman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Drs. W. G. Bisbee, E. W. Reynolds, J. E. Hollis,
Charles F. Schrader, E. W. King, O. C. Coppedge, Frank Sisler, O. H. Cowart, all
of Bristow; W. P. Longmire, Dr. Mote, Dr. Curry, Dr. Lampton and Dr. Lewis all
of Sapulpa; Dr. O. W. Starr, Drumright; Dr. O. S. Coppedge of Depew, and all
other members of the Creek county medical association.
Burial will be in Oak Crest Memorial Park here.
