Vernon West, 89, 310 W. Taft, Sapulpa, died Friday at Bartlett Memorial Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Monday at Smith Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. T. Howard Allen officiating.

Burial will follow at South Heights Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

He was born July 15, 1903 in Sapulpa. A lifetime resident of Sapulpa, he worked for the Tulsa City Lines for 35 years as a mechanic. He was a Baptist and attended Sapulpa Public Schools. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans and Veterans of Foreign Wars. Mr. West served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was in five major battles, having served on the destroyer Eichenberger.

Survivors include his brother, Jack West of Sapulpa; sisters, Louise Gulley of Tulsa and Lucille Thrasher of Tulsa; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Vernon M. West were held this afternoon at 2 p.m. at Smith Funeral Chapel with Rev. T. Howard Allen officiating.

Burial followed at South Heights Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Serving as casketbearers were Robert Logan, Andy Tuttle, Charles Rivett, Sr., Charles Rivett, Jr., Roy Wagaman and Francis Faulkner.

Full military services were given at the cemetery by the Sapulpa Veterans Organizations.

Mr. West, a lifelong Sapulpa resident, died Friday morning at Bartlett Memorial Medical Center.
