After the completion and defense of his dissertation, Ira Lee White was granted a doctoral degree in education administration by Oklahoma State University at the Summer Graduate College Hooding Ceremony on August 1.
He received the educational doctorate degree from the School of Education and was hooded by his advisor and chair of his research committee, Dr. Adrienne Hyle.
White graduated as valedictorian from Meadowbrook High School near Marietta in May 1958. He graduated summa cum laude from Central State College in Edmond in July 1961, receiving a bachelor of arts and English education degree. White was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity.
He began teaching at Sapulpa High School shortly before his 21st birthday.
White received a master of teaching degree with a major in art from Central State College in June 1964 and was again summa cum laude. He also served as a teaching fellow at Central State College from August 1963 to June 1964.
Employed by the Department of Defense Overseas Education System in August 1964 to the present, White worked in Labrador, Germany, Cuba and England.
The son of Alamito White and the late Lee White, family members attending the ceremony at Gallagher-Iba Arena on the campus of Oklahoma State University in Stillwater were his mother, Alamito; sister, Janie Horton; brother, Harodl White; wife, Joan; and daughter, Jennifer Odom of Maryland.
His son, John Mark White of Tampa, Florida, was unable to attend.
