SIDNEY — Ruth Wicks, 74, of Sidney died Jan 15, 2001, at the Exempla Lutheran Medical Center in Wheatridge, Colo.

She was born Sep 7, 1926, in Bristow, Okla., to Dudley and Connie Pendergraff Moore. She spent most of her youth in Hobbs, N.M. After graduating from Hobbs High School in 1944, she attended the University of Texas for a short time before returning to Hobbs during World War II.

On April 18, 1946, she married Clark E. Wicks, a sergeant in the U.S. Army Air Corps. Following their wedding, they moved to Rapid City, S.D. Shortly after the birth of their first son, they moved to Nebraska. In January 1964, they moved to Sidney, where she was the Welcome Wagon hostess for 15 years. She was a longtime member of the First United Methodist Church and enjoyed camping, golf and spending time with her family.

Mrs. Wicks is survived by her husband of 54 years; a daughter, Cheryl Lindekugel of Hershey; two sons, Byron of Littleton, Colo., and Brad of Denver; three granddaughters, Cari Brownawell, and Debbie and Kim Lindekugel; two grandsons, Jeff and Chris Wicks; and a great-granddaughter, Baylee Jo Brownawell.

She was preceded in death by her parents, a sister and a granddaughter.

Memorials are suggested to the American Cancer Society.
Services will be at 10 am Friday at the First United Methodist Church in Sidney with the Rev. Gary Aten officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Sidney.

Visitation will be from 9 am to 8 pm today at the Holechek Funeral Home in Sidney.
