Woman killed in fire

By the Herald Staff

A Sapulpa man was taken into custody Sunday afternoon in connection with the burning death of an elderly woman.

According to the police reports, Kennedy Cornell Brown, 29, is being held in connection with the Saturday night house fire death of Louise Taylor Williams. She died in her residence in the 200 block of west Hobson. According to reports, her body was found in the bathroom.

Police said Brown is expected to be charged Tuesday with murder and first-degree arson.

According to reports, the fire apparently started inside the residence by a box of paper being set afire.

Police were at the scene again early today investigating the blaze.

Police also reported that Brown apparently was shot in the leg by Williams Friday. No other information on the alleged shooting was available as of press time today.

The fire started about 6 p.m. Saturday and apparently was heavy when firefighters arrived at the scene, according to reports.

Neighbors said Williams had very poor eyesight. Williams’ next-door neighbor, Bill Pearce, praised the Sapulpa Fire Department for the quick response and for their efforts to try and save Williams.

Also, member of the Sapulpa Auxiliary Police worked all night guarding the scene of the fire.
