Guy Willibey Dies; Former County Sheriff
Guy W. Willibey, former Creek County sheriff and Sapulpa postmaster,
died Wednesday night at Bartlett Memorial Medical Center. He was 83.
Willibey became sheriff in 1942 and served for six years, then later
served four more years. He was appointed postmaster Feb 10, 1956, by
then President Dwight Eisenhower.
Born Nov 6, 1893, in Aliceville, Kan., he had lived in Sapulpa since
he was 4 years old. He was a veteran of World War I, serving as an Army
lieutenant. He was a member of the First Christian church, the American
Legion, and was a past member of the Elks Lodge. He was a 32nd degree
Mason.
He is survived by his widow, Zelma of the home, 902 S. Muskogee;
three sons, George D. Willibey of Tulsa, Bob Willibey of Kansas City,
Mo., and Guy R. Willibey of Houston; one daughter, Mrs. C. R. (Marilyn)
Noll of Houston; seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and one
sister, Mrs. Able Wallace of Blair, Neb.
Services will be at 2 pm Friday in the Smith Funeral Chapel with
Russell Casey and the Rev. T. Howard Allen officiating. Interment will
be in Green Hill Memorial Gardens under direction of Smith Funeral Home.
The body will lie in state at the funeral home, and the casket will
not be opened at the service.
