Glenn O. Young, 96, Sapulpa, died Thursday at Bartlett Memorial Medical Center.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 am Monday at the First Assembly of God with the Revs. Louis Torres and Archie Rivers officiating.

Burial will follow at South Heights Cemetery under the direction of Smith Funeral Home.

Mr. Young was born Oct 26, 1894, in St. Catherine, Mo. He taught agriculture and served as principal of a small school. After serving in the U.S. Army during World War I, he worked his way through the George Washington University School of Law as a supervisor for the Veterans Administration. He moved to Sapulpa in 1923.

In a distinguished legal career spanning more than 60 years in active practice Young served as a special justice to the Oklahoma Supreme Court and was legal counsel for Governor William "Alfalfa Bill" Murray. In 1942, he successfully argued a case before the United States Supreme Court. He was thought to be the oldest member of the Oklahoma Bar Association.

Mr. Young was a charter member of the American Legion and a former member of both the Elks Lodge and the Chamber of Commerce. He was active in many patriotic organizations and was honored as the Outstanding American Citizen of the Year by the National Congress of Freedom.

His business pursuits included ranching and oil. In the early years of Sapulpa, he owned and published the Democrat News, owned the ice plant and was part owner in the Sapulpa Floral Company.

Survivors include wife, Charlotte; sons David Young and John Young of Sapulpa, Norbet Young of Orlando, Florida, Ulrich Young of Sparks; daughters Elaine Marshall of Albuquerque, N.M. and Dorothy Lawson of Midland, Texas; 13 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by first wife Thora Kate Shiflet Young; sons Glenn A. Young and Thomas Young; grandsons William Glenn Young who was killed in Vietnam and Thomas Michael Lawson.

The family will headquarter at the John Young residence, 1401 E. Lincoln.
