A funeral service was held for Pearl Brown, 101, at
Rivercrest Chapel, Bixby, Okla., with interment at Floral
Haven Memorial Gardens in Broken Arrow, officiated by Jack
Selby. Services were under the direction of Bixby Funeral
Service.
Pearl L. Brown was born Feb. 3, 1908, in Sequoyah County,
Okla., the daughter of James F. Couthren and Mary Della
Jackson Couthren. Pearl died Sunday, Jan. 3, 2010, at
Rolling Hills Care Center in Catoosa, Okla.
Pearl Brown. Pearl was recognized by the Bixby Bulletin and
the City of Bixby when she turned 100. She died shortly
before her 102nd birthday.
Pearl grew up approximately 100
miles south of Bixby in Sequoyah County and moved to Sand
Springs when she was 17 to care for an ailing aunt.
She and James Franklin Brown were married Aug. 26, 1925, at
Sapulpa, Okla. At the time of his death, they had
celebrated 54 years of marriage. During that time, they
lived in Sand Springs until 1942 when they moved to Bixby.
Pearl was preceded in death by her parents; her husband,
Frank in 1979; her son, Melvin, and two grandchildren.
She is survived by: four sons, Vernon Brown and wife Mary of
Collinsville, Okla., A.F. Cotton Brown and wife Evelyn of
Hitchita, Okla., Estel Brown of Pawhuska, Okla., and Shirl
Brown and wife Dorothy of Catoosa, Okla.; four daughters,
Mary Lamb of Council hill, Okla., Chris Terpe of Tulsa,
Verda Roberts of Howe, Okla., and Ann Miller and husband,
Milton of Bokoshe, Okla. Also, one brother, Frank Couthren
of Surprize, Ariz.; 27 grandchildren; 56
great-grandchildren; 22 great-great grandchildren.
