Montieth Case Is Heard Today
Sapulpan Fight Extradition to Kansas on
Forged M. O. Charges
A habeas corpus hearing for C. E.
"Dutch" Montieth who is fighting extradition in the state of
Kansas, was continued for a few minutes this afternoon at 2:30
o'clock to permit a witness from Oklahoma City to arrive. The
case was expected to reach Judge Gaylord R. Wilcox shortly after
3 o'clock.
Judge Wilcox gave his time to another
case to allow the witness to arrive. The case was not re-set but
only passed for a few minutes. Officers from Kansas and several
witnesses who were summoned stood around the third floor of the
courthouse.
Montieth will attempt to prove that he
was in another place when a forged American express money order
was cashed in Kansas. Officers want to take him to that state to
question him in the alleged fraud for which L. W. "Woody"
McEweth, well known Sapulpan, is being held.
McEwen's bond has been set at $1,000.
The bond was reduced from $1,500 to $1,000 cash. Officers here
said. He has been unable to make the bond.
Montieth who has served time in
McAlester, is known to officers over the entire state. He shot
at former Police Chief Tom Brumley as Brumley attempted to
arrest him several years ago while Montieth is alleged to have
been attempting to steal an automobile. The bullet failed to
