Clyde Morton Archer, a resident of Sapulpa formerly of Hitchita, Okla. passed
away on Thursday, April 10, 2011 in Tulsa, Okla. at the age of 78.
Clyde was born November 17, 1932 to Clyde and Bernice Morton Archer. He grew up
in Hitchita and Victor communities. He graduated from Checotah High School in
1950.
Clyde married Essie Loretta Ashley on May 12, 1957. To this union was born,
Clyde Marshal, Roni Sue, Doni Kaye, Martin Lee and Mark Ashley.
Clyde was an avid coon hunter for many years, spent lots of nights in the Deep
Fork River bottom with Joe Sparks, Paul Keys, Omar Lackey, Mickey Stanton and
Hack Layman.
Clyde taught science and biology and coached girls and boys basketball for eight
years at Hitchita. He also coached at Midway, Dewar and Mounds. He coached girls
basketball for 20 years and was inducted into the Oklahoma Girls Basketball Hall
of Fame in 1984. Clyde and his family spent many happy days fishing Dripping
Springs Lakes.
Clyde also farmed some, raised horses and cattle. He helped Mark with the cattle
until just a few days ago.
Clyde is survived by his wife Essie Archer of 54 years of the home; two sons,
Clyde Marshall and wife Julie of Sapulpa, Mark and wife Teresa of Sapulpa; two
daughters, Roni Archer of Sapulpa, Doni Hinton and son in law Gary Hinton of
Norman; two brothers Terry and wife Ann of Broken Arrow, Jerry and wife Mary of
Council Hill; two sisters, Jackie and husband Bob Mustin of Morgan Hill, Calif.,
Patricia and husband Mike Lester of Broken Arrow, and sister-in-law Betty Archer
of St. Charles, Mo.; grandchildren, Brook and Jewell Liffler, Charlotte Watson
and Eric Watson, Michael and Heather Yarbrough, Michelle and John Kendall and
Jeff Pauley, Erin Archer, Dalton Hinton, Addylee Archer, Dresden Archer and
Billy Perkins, Martina Archer; his adopted family of Terry and Heather Butler
and their children, Jessica, T.J. and Amber; and many nieces, nephews, cousins
and friends.
Clyde was preceded in death by son, Martin Lee Archer, his parents, Clyde and
Bernice Archer, one sister, Doris Jean Landis and twin brother Claude Archer.
Family will greet friends at Integrity Funeral Service from 5-8 p.m. on
Wednesday, April 13, 2011.
Funeral Services are scheduled for 2 p.m., Thursday, April 14, 2011 at Midway
School Gymnasium in Hitchita, Okla. with the Reverend Don Cook and the Reverend
Millard "Preach" McGuire officiating. Interment will follow at Lackey Cemetery
in Hitchita.
Pallbearers will be Kenny Archer, Rodney Archer, Jerry Wayne Archer, Ned Landis,
Grant Lester, Dalton Hinton, Harold Barker, Brady Barker, John Ryal, John
Schwitzer, Leon Byers and T.J. Butler. Honorary Pallbearers will be all his
former basketball players.
In lieu of flowers, donations would be honorably accepted at Connors State
College; Warner, Oklahoma - Connors State College Student Scholarship
Foundation.
Services are under the direction of Integrity Funeral Service in Henryetta.
