Sapulpa Herald
Sapulpa, Creek County, Oklahoma
September  3, 2010

A Sapulpa teenager has died after a crash in Creek County, one day before he and his teammates were to begin the 2010 football season.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reports that 16-year-old Justin Fitzpatrick died in the crash that happened Thursday at about 5:15 p.m. on South 177th West Avenue just south of 91st Street South.

The OHP reports a pickup truck driven by 17-year-old Dennis Eddleman, also of Sapulpa, was southbound on 177th West Avenue at a high rate of speed when Eddleman lost control on a gravel roadway. The vehicle ran off the east side of the road and struck a fence before rolling onto its side and striking a tree.

Fitzpatrick was pinned in the vehicle for nearly two and a half hours and was pronounced dead at the scene. Eddleman was taken by ambulance to St. John Medical Center in Tulsa in stable condition with lacerations to his head and arms.

Fitzpatrick was a junior receiver and defensive back on the Chieftains football team. Sapulpa plays tonight at Ponca City.
