Robert
Charles (RC.) Lester died July 24, 2005, surrounded by his
family. A lifelong resident of Creek County, Lester was born
June 3, 1922 to Roy and Elizabeth (Bath) Lester of Bristow. He
was a graduate of Bristow High School, attended Bristow Junior
College and was awarded B.S. and M.S. Degrees in Education from
Oklahoma A8: M College, new OSU.
Lester served as an officer in the United States Navy during
World War II, landing troops in Italy, Corsica and Southern
France. As the war ended he was serving in Pearl Harbor as the
Harbor Control Officer.
He married Vivian June Hendrickson of Bristow in July 1947 and
began his career in education as the math teacher at Bristow
Junior High School. He next served as principal then
superintendent [of] Oilton for 17 years. He returned to Bristow
as the Junior High principal and retired in 1980. He was
preceded in death by his wife in 1972.
In addition to his service in the education arena, RC. was
actively involved in oil and gas exploration, real estate
transactions. farming and ranching, community and civic affairs.
Lester was elected to the Oklahoma House of Representatives in
1990 representing the people of
District No. 29 from 1991-1992. He was a member and Chairman of
the Creek County Election Board for 12 years and served as a
member of the Creek County Board of Health for 25 years. He
served in numerous leadership positions in the Chamber of
Commerce, Lions Club and Creek County Retired Educators.
Following his marriage to JoAnn Gray in 1983, he enjoyed his
expanding roles as husband, father, grandfather, gardener,
politician and traveler'. He especially enjoyed their trip with
friends to Hawaii in 2002.
He is survived by his wife JoAnn, of the home; daughter June
Chubbuck and husband Gary, Moore: son F rank Lester and wife
Donna, Broken Arrow; grandchildren Lauren Lester Allison and
husband Joshua, Tulsa, John Robert Chubbuck, Moore, and Emily
Lester, Broken Arrow; sisters Imogene Jackson, Stroud, and
Rosabelle Heatherly, Jackson, Tenn.; and brother Earl Lester,
Drumright. His extended family includes Reggy Royce Gray,II,
Randy Joe Gray and Karen Gray Fletcher, all of Oklahoma City,
nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by grandson Travis Chubbuck in 2002.
Grave Side services will be Thursday, July 28, 2005, at 9:30
a.m. at the Bristow
City Cemetery. A memorial service in celebration of R.C.'s
life will follow at 10:30am at the Bristow First United
Methodist Church, East 7th and Chestnut.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be to the Bristow First United
Methodist Church.
