Oil Tank Blast
     Injuries Fatal

BARTLESVILLE—John Banks, 36, Ochelata, who was critically burned Tuesday night in an oil storage tank explosion, died Thursday in Jane Phillips Memorial Hospital.

Banks' clothing caught fire when the oil tank he was gauging on a lease five miles southwest of Ochelata exploded. He was burned over 80 percent of his body.

His wife, who was sitting in the family car about 25 feet from the exploding tank with a 4-year- old daughter, was burned when she tried to extinguish the flames on her husband’s clothing.

Banks was born in Kellyville, and had lived in the Kellyville- Sapulpa area most of his life. The family had moved to near Ochelata last May.

Surviving are his wife. Vella; a daughter, Deborah; two sons, Jerry and Terry; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Kinley Banks, Sa- pulpa; two brothers, Kinley Jr., and Bobby, both of Sapulpa, and five sisters, including Mrs. Neoma Kelin and Mrs. Anna Lee Kelin, both of Sapulpa, and Mrs. Patricia Freeman, Bristow.

Funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in South Heights Baptist Church in Sapulpa. Burial will be directed by Owen Funeral Home.
