Cemetery near Putnam. A “celebration of life” will follow at 2 p.m. that day

Delk was born Sept. 3, 1932, at Lake Valley, the son of Raymond and Jewell
(Deputy) Delk. In 1934 his family moved to Clinton where he lived the rest
of his life, except for nine months at Woodward in the 1950s and the last
year which he alternated between hospitals and the care center in Corn.
A 1950 graduate of Clinton High School, Delk worked as a young man for
McClellan’s Variety Store, for Bills Bakery as a route salesman, and for the
Nash-Finch Company in the warehouse and as a salesman. It was during the
latter employment that he lived in Woodward.
In 1957 Delk began work in the auto parts business. He was employed first by
Mahanay Brothers, then had his own Hub City Auto Parts for several years
before ending his career with Clinton Auto Supply.
As a parts supplier, he spent many summer evenings assisting stranded
motorists or helping farmers trying to complete wheat harvest.
He was a Clinton volunteer fireman for 20 years, and for several years he
was the moving force behind the Western Oklahoma Livestock Show. His work

began to fail in 1998. He not only brought smiles to the children of the
community but to adults and the elderly as well, carrying his bag of goodies
to schools, civic clubs, nursing homes and the Veterans Center.
He also enjoyed cooking, especially smoked meats and baked beans.
Delk was a longtime member of the Broadway Heights Baptist Church which his
parents helped organize. He committed his life to Christ as a teenager, was
ordained as a deacon in 1962, and served as Sunday school superintendent
intermittently for 25 years. He also taught Sunday school classes himself.
In 1998, at the time of his second marriage, he became a member of the
Custer Avenue Church of Christ.
