Obituary - Stuart Felix Benson, son of W. L. C. Benson and Laura Stuart Benson was born March 21, 1870 at Staunton, Virginia and departed this life at the Okeene Municiple Hospital March 24, 1956 at the age of 86 years and three days.
At the age of 14 he moved with his family from Virginia to Illinois and later to Kansas. On August 25, 1895, he was united in marriage with Emma Rogers. They lived in Kansas two years, and then moved to Dewey County, Oklahoma where they took the homestead on which they continued to live.
Five children were born to this union, two of whom preceded their parents in death. Laura, the oldest, who died at nineteen, and John, the youngest, who died at the age of five. Mrs. Emma Benson died in 1946 at the age of seventy years.
Stuart Benson is survived by three children: George S. Benson, who is president of Harding College, Searcy, Arkansas; Earl U. Benson, Administrator of the Medical Center Hospital in Odessa, Texas; and Bertha Benson Hayes, who is a member of the Seiling Public School System, and whose husband operates a farm which includes the original S. F. Benson homestead.
The deceased obeyed the gospel when a young man and continued an active Christian through life, and was an elder of the church of Christ at the "Y" for many years.
Funeral services were conducted at the "Y" church under the direction of the Spies Funeral Home. The speaker was Dr. F. W. Mattox, Dean of Students at Harding College, Searcy, Arkansas.
Interment was made in the Huc Mac Cemetery.
