J. W. COLES DIED MONDAY, FEB. 18

J. W. Coles, 89, passed away Monday morning at the home of his son, Lee, after a long illness.

Mr. Coles was a pioneer of Dewey County. He filed on a homestead 8 miles southeast of Vici, where he and his wife raised their family. They moved into Vici a number of years ago where they resided since that time. Mrs. Coles preceded him in death a few years ago.

Survivors are the following children: Fred Coles of Richmond, California; Mrs. Marie Foster of Denver, Colorado; and Lee Coles and Mrs. Blanche Hart of Vici.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 Wednesday afternoon at the Vici Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Cunningham. Burial was in Sunnyside cemetery with Shaw Funeral Home in charge.

OBITUARY...JOHN WILL COLES

John Will Coles, son of Mr. and Mrs. William B. Coles, was born February 23, 1863, near Laconia, Lucas county, Iowa.

When 10 years of age he moved with his parents to Mitchell County, Kansas. Here he received his education and grew to manhood.

On October 27, 1891, he was married to Laura M. Kellogg. One daughter, Effie, was born near Glasco, Kansas. In 1895, Mr. Coles, with his wife and little daughter, moved to Oklahoma, homesteading 2 miles south of old Bement. Here 3 sons and 2 daughters were born. The family were reared here on this homestead.

In 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Coles moved to Vici. Although Mr. Coles had retired from active farming, he was still interested in farm life and continued to operate a threshing machine until his failing health forced his retirement.

Mr. Coles was an active community builder, interested in good schools, churches, and any civic project which was for the advancement of this new community.

In April of 1914 Mr. Coles and his wife were converted and baptized into the Church of God. Later he transferred his membership to the Church of the First Born.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Laura, one daughter, Effie, and one son, Ira. Survivors are 2 daughters, Mrs. Blanche Hart of Vici, Oklahoma, and Mrs. Marie Foster of Denver, Colorado; and two sons, Lee of Vici, Oklahoma and Fred of Richmond, California.

Another beloved pioneer has passed on. Besides his immediate family, he leaves six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

OBITUARY....LAURA M. COLES

Laura M. Kellogg, daughter of Elijah and Sarah Kellogg, was born in Crawford County, Illinois on June 10, 1875 and passed away at her home in Vici, April 9, 1948 at the age of 72 years, 9 months, 29 days.

At the age of two years, she with her parents moved to Glasso, Kansas where she grew to womanhood.

On October 27, 1891, she was married to J. W. Coles. Later in 1895 the couple moved to Oklahoma and homesteaded two miles South of old Beement, where their six children were born. They are: Lee Coles and Blanche Hart of Vici, Fred Coles of Richmond, California, and Marie Foster of Denver, Colorado. One son, Ira, and one daughter, Effie, preceded her in death, each at the age of 14 years. One sister, Mrs. Lizzie Ausman, passed away in 1938.

Mrs. Coles was converted and baptised in the Church of God in April 1914.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her husband of the home, four children, six grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. She also leaves one brother, John Kellogg of Glasso, Kansas, other relatives and many friends.

Another pioneer has been taken from our midst. She was a part of early Dewey County. Through the united efforts of this one and other pioneers, our early communities have grown and developed into the thriving, modern communities in which we are now privileged to live.

Life! We've been long together, Through pleasant and through cloudy weather,
This hard to part when friends are dear Perhaps 'twill cost a sight, a tear,
Then steal away, give a little warning, Choose thine own time;

The thank you in the newspaper from the family mentions her illness and the lovely floral offerings.

TRACTOR MISHAP KILLS LEE COLE - VICI

Lee Cole, a 69 year old farmer, died early Thursday morning in the Woodward Hospital as a result of injuries received when he was run over by a tractor on his farm about 9 p.m.

Cole had finished helping a neighbor, Paul Adams, hook a spring tooth harrow to the tractor and had reportedly told Adams to start the tractor. Reports indicate that Cole fell under the tractor wheel and Adams then backed the tractor off Coles Body.

Cole was rushed to the Woodward Hospital and died at 12:05 a.m. Dr. R. Obermiller attending physician, said Cole died of chest injuries, internal injuries and a possible rupture of the liver.

Services will be held at 2:30 Thursday in the Shaw Memorial Chapel in Vici. Burial will be at Sunnyside Cemetery.

Survivors include his wire, Mabel, and one sister, Mrs. D. R. Hart.

LEE COLES SERVICES HELD THURSDAY - VICI

Funeral Services were held Thursday for Lee Cole in The Shaw Memorial Chapel. Elden Harvey Randall officiated.

Cole, 69, died August 8 as a result of a tractor accident.

Casket bearers were J. S. McCleery, Paul Humberd, Glen Cunningham, Dan Castor, Raymond Moss, and Glen Schramling. Interment was in Sunnyside Cemetery. Survivors are his wife and one sister.

OBITUARY

Ralph Lee Coles, son of Will and Laura Coles was born December 1, 1897 on the family homestead two miles south of Old Beement, Oklahoma and passed from this life at Woodward Memorial Hospital on August 8, 1967. He was 69 years, 8 months, and 7 days of age.

Lee grew to manhood on the homestead and attended Fairview School.

In February 1918 he was married to Mable DeArmond. They established their home in the Beement community where Lee spent the remainder of this life. He loved the farm and was always interested in new and improved methods of farming, and among his friends and neighbors was considered among the best of farmers.

Lee was a good neighbor and a loyal friend. He was a lover of children and in turn was dearly loved by them.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by his wife, Mabel of the home, one sister, Mrs. Blanche Hart of Vici, several nieces and nephews, other relatives and many friends.

Edd J. Cole Died Monday, August 6th

Edd J. Cole, 82, passed away Monday night, August 6, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Hugh Boyd, southeast of town, after a long illness.

Mr. Cole had been a resident of Oklahoma since 1909 and was widely known.
He is survived by ten children, 5 daughters: Irene Luderman of Riverton, Wyoming, Audry Boyd of Lenora, Gladys Moss and Edith Boyd of Delta, Colorado, and Betty Zornes, all of Lenora; and 5 sons, Ollie Cole of Rifle, Colorado, Pete Cole of Vici; Lester Cole of Mooreland, Verne and Merle Cole, both of Lenora.

Funeral services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in the Vici Christian church, with burial in Sunnyside cemetery. The Shaw Funeral Home is in charge.

OBITUARY - Edward James Cole

Edward James Cole, son of Daniel and Julia Cole, born January 15, 1868, in Whiteside county, Illinois, and departed this life at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Audry Boyd, of near Vici, Oklahoma, on Monday evening, August 5, 1951 at the age of 83 years 6 months and 22 days.
In 1893 he was married to Mattie Dickman in Buffalo County, Nebraska. To this union 13 children were born, 4 of whom preceded him in death. Soon after their marriage they moved to Rooks county, Kansas, where they made their home until 1909 when they with their family moved to Bloomfield, Oklahoma, where they lived until the time of his wife's passing in 1927.

In 1928 he and Elizabeth Marczynski were married. To this union one child was born. He and his family moved to Camargo in 1940 where he resided until 1946, after which he made his home with his children in Oklahoma and Colorado. He had been an invalid since 1945.
When a young man, Mr. Cole was baptized into the Church of Christ. He was a kind and loving father and husband, and a wonderful friend. Ed Cole was widely known as a wheat farmer and thresher-man in Kansas and Oklahoma, where he was highly respected for his honesty and kindness.

Preceding him in death were his wife, Mattie, and four children: Ray, Dan, Gertrude and Edna. Those left to mourn his passing are four sons five daughters: Ollie of Rifle, Colo; Pete of Vici, Okla; Lester of Mooreland, Okla; Vern and Murl of Lenora, Oklah; Irene Ludeman of Riverton, Wyoming; Gladys Moss and Edith Boyd of Delta, Colo; Audry Boyd and Betty Zornes of Lenora, Okla; 43 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, and other relatives and many friends.
