Obituary

Hilary Gerald Howard, son of Jeff and Katherine Howard was born in Jefferson City, Missouri, March 24, 1892 and departed this life in St. Anthony Hospital of Amarillo, Texas on October 27, 1969. He was 77 years, 7 months, and 3 days of age at the time of passing.

"Hid", as he was known to his many friends, came to Leedey with his parents while he was yet a young boy. Here he grew to manhood and lived the greater part of his life.

On January 18, 1914, Hid was united in marriage to Jettye Reynolds. Two children were born to this union.
In 1918, Hid and Jettye moved from Leedey for Hid to take up work in the oilfields of Texas and Kansas. While he was so employed, Jettye pursued her occupation as a school teacher. In 1934 the family returned to Leedey, their "home" and engaged themselves in farming. Hid loved the land and his livestock. Though times were somewhat hard, his devotion to the land never waivered.

Hid was an enthusiastic member of the Masonic Lodge and held it's thirty second degree, one of the highest degrees one may achieve in the order.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, his parents; three brothers, Paul, Edward and Earl; and three sisters, Amy Bush, Gracie Howard, and Pearl Schmidt. He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, Jettye, of the home; his daughter, Elsie Faye Morrow and his grandson, Paul Morrow, both of Tulia, Texas; his brother, John of Paradise, California; his sisters, Sunny Ingram of Jacksonville, Florida and Agnes McClung of Klamath Falls, Oregon; other relatives and many many friends.

Jettye Belle Howard, daughter of Wiley Frank Reynolds and Hulda Jane Caffee Reynolds was born at Glasgow Junction, Kentucky on November 16, 1891 and departed this life in St. Anthony Hospital of Amarillo, Texas on November 7, 1971. She was 80 years, 1 day of age at the time of passing.

Jettye first moved to Oklahoma City and later moved to Hammon where she resided for a while with an uncle and aunt, Mr. and Mrs. John Reynolds.

On Janaury 8, 1914, Jettye was united in marriage to Hilary G. "Hid" Howard. Two children, Elsie Faye and an infant son that preceded Jettye in death, were born to this union. Jettye and "Hid" established their residence near Leedey and Jettye continued teaching school which had been her occupation of several years. In 1918, Jettye and Hid moved from Leedey and resided for a while in both Kansas and Texas where Hid was employed in the oil fields. Jettye continued teaching to help supplement the family income.

In 1934 the family returned to Leedey and again engaged in farming. Jettye loved raising horses and other livestock and was an avid gardener. She shunned idleness, keeping busy always with canning fruits and vegetables, looking after livestock, and caring always, with great concern and love, for her family.

She had become a member of the Baptist Church while young and maintained her activity in church work throughout her active life. She was a member of the Loyalty Sunday School class of Leedey Baptist Church at the time of her passing.
Jettye leaves to cherish the memory of her life, her daughter, Elsie Faye Morrow and grandson, Paul Morrow, both of Tulia, Texas; two sisters, Mrs. Shelby Pemberton and Mrs. Pearl Hall, both of Williwick, Ohio; and other dear relatives.
