LOUIS LEON SPURLOCK
(MARCH 30, 1933 - JANUARY 28, 1994)  

LOUIS LEON SPURLOCK
was born March 30, 1933.  He was saved in a revival at Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in Stratford, Oklahoma on September 20, 1946 and was baptized on September 25, 1946.  Louis enlisted in the U.S. Navy following his junior year in high school, but received his high school diploma by correspondence.  Louis retired from the U.S. Navy after 21 years.  He was a Hospital Corpsman with the rank of Chief Petty Officer.  He served in both the Korean and Viet Nam Conflicts.  He was an ordained Baptist preacher, having graduated from the Bible Baptist College in Springfield, Missouri on May 24, 1979.  He pastored Faith Baptist Church in Okmulgee, Oklahoma, Bible Fellowship Baptist Church and Temple Baptist Church in McAlester, Oklahoma.  Also, for a period of time, he served as Youth Pastor of Northgate Baptist Church in McAlester.  At the time of his death on January 28, 1994, he was a guard at the Oklahoma State Prison at McAlester.  His services were conducted in the Bishop Funeral Home Chapel in McAlester, Oklahoma.  Pastor Bob Tate officiated.  Following the services in the chapel, the assembly was dismissed and reassembled for the concluding services at the Abney Cemetery in Stratford, Oklahoma.  On February 9, 1953, he married Wanda Alice Benge.  His grandfather, J.W. Abney, performed the wedding ceremony.
