Moses Clay
Return to Five Mile Cemetery Index
Submitted by Dennis Muncrief
From the book, Buck Colbert, His life and Times.
Buck was one of the first Negro lawyers to practice in Indian Territory.
He lived in the area of 5 Mile cemetery in the 1880's and was there and witnessed the
murder of Moses Clay.
It was at a church picnic and the infamous Negro outlaw Dick Glass was there.
An argument over a sack of horse feed erupted into two men being killed. Dick Glass killed
Moses Clay.
Dick Glass escaped but was killed the next year by the Chickasaw light horsemen while
trying to bring in a shipment of several wagon loads of whiskey into Indian
Territory at Colbert Crossing on the Red River.
