(taken in 1945)

 JOHN D. SKAGGS
was born May 6, 1919.  He was the younger brother of Opal Skaggs, who married Hermon Floyd Abney.  John D. Married Pauline Abney, daughter of Jesse Lee Abney, who was the older brother of Hermon.  As WWII came, John D. obtained a postponement from the military twice because he was a farmer.  However, after a year, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served for two and one half years.  He held the rank of PFC and all of his service was in the United States.  He was an avid sportsman and loved hunting and fishing.  He worked as an electrician until his retirement.  In his later years, John D. developed circulation problems which lead to other problems.  John D. died on July 19, 2002 at the Pauls Valley Hospital in Pauls Valley, Oklahoma of congestive heart failure.  His services were conducted in the First Baptist Church of Stratford, Oklahoma with Rev. Marvin Know and Rev.  Mike Muse officiating.  John D. is buried in the Abney Cemetery in Stratford, Oklahoma.
