Garvin County Obituaries - Velma Lou Ward Barnhill Submitted by - Sonya Smith SONYA966@aol.com Obituary of Velma Lou Ward Barnhill, Lindsay News, Lindsay , Garvin Co., OK Feb. 18, 2000 Velma Lou Barnhill, 91, of Lindsay, Oklahoma passed away in Lindsay on February 14, 2000. She was born in Lindsay on February 26, 1908 to Frank G. Ward and Ida Virginia (Patrick) Ward. Velma Lou grew up in Lindsay and graduated from Lindsay High School. She received he Bachelor of Arts degree from Central State Collage in 1925;and Master of Science in Education from Oklahoma State University in 1952. She taught school for one year at Ross School in McClain County; one year in the Dare school north of Lindsay; and forty-two years in the Lindsay Elementary School. She retired from teaching in 1073. Velma Lou was a member of the First Baptist Church in Lindsay; also a member of the Alpha theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gama; an the AARP both local and National; She was a member of the Oklahoma Educational Association; the Oklahoma Retired Teachers Association; the National Retired Teachers Association; and the Garvin County Retired Teachers Association. On August 7, 1958 she was married in Lindsay to Reagon D. Barnhill. He preceded her in death in March of 1973. She was also preceded in death by both her parents. She is survived by nephews, Jess A. Garrett of Sun City, AZ, Raymond Patrick Ward of Tulsa and William Ward of McLean, VA; two nieces, Louanne Trublood of Eden Prairie, MN and Virginia McCormick of CA; and cousin David Beazley and Marcene of Dallas, TX. Funeral services will be held in the First Baptist Church in Lindsay on Friday February 18, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev, Steve Patterson and Rev. Lance Ward, Great nephew, officiating. Interment will be at Green Hill Cemetery, Lindsay, OK, under the direction of B.G. Boydston Funeral Home, Lindsay. Memorials mae be made to First Baptist Church Building Fund or Recruitment Grant Fund of Alpha Theta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma.
