(Jiggs) Montgomery Services for John H. Montgomery, 80, were held Wednesday, April 24 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church in Davis with Rev. James Densman and Dr. David Eggenberg officiating. Interment was at the Green Hill Cemetery under the direction of Fox Funeral Home. Mr. Montgomery was born December 15, 1921 in Wynnewood to Thomas Ford and Lizzie Dee Eaton Montgomery. He died April 21, 2002 in Davis. On September 22, 1946 he married Florence Edwards in Davis. After graduating from Dougherty High School, he served in the Army and was stationed in France during World War II. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Silver Star. After the war he moved to Lawton where he worked in Civil Service at Ft. Sill until his retirement in January of 1978. He served as Deacon at the First Baptist Church in Lawton. When he moved to Davis he worked for the Davis Public Schools in transportation. After 10 years of service he retired again to enjoy gardening, fishing and supporting the Davis Wolves. He was a member of Davis First Baptist Church and served as a deacon and usher. He is survived by his wife, Florence, of the home; two daughters, Linda Boston and her husband, Jerry, Ardmore and Connie Gowan and her husband, Darryl, Duncan; one brother, Clifford "Fat", Arizona; two sisters, Ruth Mathews, Davis and Maxine Hanifen, Dallas; four grandchildren, Robbie and Sarah Boston, Kara Reid and her husband, Cory, and Jana Gowan; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and one sister. Pallbearers were Buddy Jones, Sammie Jones, Bo Saunders, Leland Slate, Wayne Webb and W.T. Young. Honorary pallbearers were Pete Byrd, Ray Chambless, Fred Dale, Bill Dulaney, Frank Heaton, Dale Noland, Charlie Robertson and Jerry White. Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Davis or Crosstimbers Hospice, 1512 Meadow Lane, Ardmore.
