James Wyley Martin Family
Submitted by: Dave Martin
James Wyley Martin and his wife, Sarah
Francis (Young) Martin settled in Garvin County between 1890 -1900. They came
to Indian Territory from Blackwood Township, Howard County, Arkansas. This is
where they were married and where several of their children were born. They
are on the 1900 U.S. Census , Indian territory , Chickasaw Nation. Each
following U.S. Census they are still residing in the same location. Around
Walker township just East of Pauls Valley.
Also my grandfather Joseph Franklin Martin (son of Jim Martin) and his wife,
Edith Anabelle (Ferguson) Martin have resided in Garvin County for their
lifetime. They have lived in Lindsay, Wynnewood areas. However, they were
residing in Wynnewood area (Walker township) during the birth of my Father, Joe
Henry Martin (b. 1925 d. 1963) As you can see several generations of Martins
have lived in Garvin County. Of this same line of descent there are still
some living in Garvin County. Several in Pauls Valley and some around Maysville
area.
All relatives mentioned above are buried in Oaklawn Cemetery in Wynnewood,
Oklahoma.
Below is a letter (with Spelling) from my great grandmother to her half-brother,
James Edward Perrin about the death of their mother. Francis was the only
daughter of James Young Jr. who died as a prisoner of war in the civil war in
Petersburg, Virginia. Likely she NEVER saw her father .
