Thrusday, June 21, 1917

Everett P. Mason, received at the penitentiary March 1 on a
twenty-five year sentence for bank robbery in Pontotoc County, was shot and
instantly killed when tried to make his escape from a gang working on the
state cotton farm. He made a dash toward a clump of trees just across the
road south of the state property. He ignored commands to halt. Three shots
entered his body at the same time all stricking between the shoulder and
waist.
